PAST INTERNATIONAL EVENTS

  • Final conference of the ASPECT project, Mantova (Italy), January 17th-18th, 2008
The conference was centered around policies for the promotion of eco-companies and the sharing of best practices within the 8 regions represented in the project consortium. Round tables allowed policy makers and local or regional authorities to discuss ways to develop green businesses. The Guidelines published by the project partners was presented and distributed to participants to assist them in their efforts for economic development in their area.

  • Regional conference "Eco-companies in the Alpine Space", Kempten (Germany), November 29th, 2007
Within the ASPECT project a conference on Eco-companies took place in Kempten (Germany). Institutions and companies exchanged experiences, discussed the content of the compiled ASPECT-guidelines, made trans-national contacts, and found technological or industrial partner.

  • SESEC, Lausanne (Switzerland), October 30th-31st November 1st, 2007 Swiss Environmental Solutions for Emerging Countries –SESEC- is to promote environmental technologies by providing opportunities for participants to make contacts, update their knowledge and create projects
This year, the focus wason International Networking for Promoting Sustainable Development at the Local Level.
For further information : Sesec website ASPECT on SESEC : there was a special session dedicated to ASPECT, with an objective to support the building of SME consortia to improve their competitiveness. There are currently 2 consortia looking for extra partners:
    1- EcoBuilding Consortium

The easiest way to realize important savings of energy and money consists in a good insulation of the buildings. A Swiss company, located in the Green Center of Orbe, has developed a new technology in order to produce a competitive insulation out of grass or other natural fibers. This technology helps to give a new growing market to the farmers without competing with the production of food. The company has made a partnership with another company, which is selling solar panels, integrated solar roofs or façades, and also very performing material for soft cooling. In order to answer to many demands they receive, these two firms would like to create a consortium with companies selling complementary ecological equipment (special machines for heating and cooling out of wood or other biomass for example).
2 - Looking for partners for a European project and, in a second step, for a market cooperation in biorefinery
: production of renewable materials and energies from biomass
The Consortium is a group of investors, research institutes and engineering companies from Switzerland, preparing an investment project for production of renewable materials and energies from biomass. The main target of the project is the implementation of up to date technologies for the complete valorization of lignocellulosic raw material (wood, straw, miscanthus, etc). The main focus is to prove the technical and economical feasibility of small to medium size production plants. The project is organized in two phases: first phase: semi industrial demonstration plant and second phase industrial investment project. Different new technologies will be implemented on several levels of the process, which is mainly composed by the following steps:
    1. Extraction, separation, concentration of valuable substances
    2. Energetically revalorization of the remaining residues:
      - gasification
      - pre-treatment, hydrolysis and fermentation of the residues
    3. Ethanol dehydration process
While process steps 1 and 3 are quite well known in the consortium, there is a significant demand for technology transfer for the processes under point 2. Therefore the consortium is looking for industrial partners able and willing to supply suitable technologies to achieve the mentioned targets within the whole value chain. You are coming from one of the partner region and you are interested in joining one of these partnerships? Please get in touch with your local contact point: http://www.aspect-project.eu/leaflet.pdf f the Université d’Eté de l’Environnement 2007. Amongst the contributors Mr Alain Jenny, Committee Member of Eco-net Consortium and partner of ADNV was present at this event. For further information : Programme in French and English
  • 3ème Université d'été de l'Environnement - Environmental workshops, Lyon (France), September 27th-28th, 2007
A venue for scientific and prospective exchanges, it was also a venue for research and the transfer of skills and expertise on all the crucial subjects concerning the environment and sustainable development. This year “Alternative manufacturing” was the theme of the Université d’Eté de l’Environnement 2007. Amongst the contributors Mr Alain Jenny, Committee Member of Eco-net Consortium and partner of ADNV was present at this event. For further information : Programme in French and English
  • Green Week, Brussels (Belgium), 12th-15th June 2007

Green Week was the opportunity to look back at 50 years of European environmental policy and look at the future. This week provided a unique opportunity for debate, exchange of experience and best practice among non-governmental organisations, businesses. • International Business Convention on Construction and Energy in Lyon (February 15-16th, 2007)

An International Business Convention was held in Lyon, Eurexpo, France : business conventions to target future partners.

  • POLLUTEC : 22nd international exhibition on environmental equipment, technologies and services in Lyon (28th November-1st December 2006)

Pollutec Lyon 2006 (28th November -1st December) attracted 2,500 exhibitors from thirty countries and 67,300 visitors from all round the world.
In 20 years, Pollutec has established itself as THE global event for all environment professionals: manufacturers, local authority managers, specifiers … It is an event that has become a must both because of the extent and the diversity of the range of solutions – which is unparalleled anywhere else in the world – as well as for the numerous topical discussions and international meetings.
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Lyon took part in this event, together with the Rhône-Alpes region Chambers of Commerce, in order to present the skills of the territory. The ASPECT project was also presented.

  • Progress in Austria: meetings with stakeholders and eco-industry networks for strategy brainstorming

On August 28th, 2006 a strategic meeting of Austrian stakeholders (environmental & economic administration) and representatives of EI enterprises was held at the OGUT. The environmental & economic administration was represented by the environmental departments of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Labour.
The overall goal of the meeting was to identify the needed prerequisites for a structured market approach towards a transnational cooperation in the EI sector with countries that are not necessarily EU member states but prospective EI markets just the same. As example, the waste management sector in Russia was considered.

A key outcome of the meeting referring to the goals of ASPECT (or serving as an incentive for WP 6 Strategic Analysis) was that:
- a crucial prerequisite for a promising positioning of EI-SMEs on the international markets is, in first place, a sound institutional cooperation (running or concluded) between Austria (or any other Alpine space country) and the target country. This cooperation should be also mirrored in approximation of environmental laws (this is guaranteed within the EU 25, but not on other international markets, which are gaining more and more in attraction).
- secured financial models and tendering procedures for export of Austrian (or any other Alpine space country’s) EI.
- a necessity of transnational information networks exists.

On September 27th, a first meeting of the Austrian EI-networks was planned to take place at the OGUT. The key 27 Austrian EI-networks (out of 54 Austrian EI networks in total) were invited. The goal was to derive a bottom-up generated input for WP 6 (Strategic Analysis), this time from the viewpoint of the EI-networks themselves. The main issues concerned the role of the Austrian EI networks (and thus also SMEs) within an Alpine EI-network, e.g. form of participation, expectations, connection between EI and economy.
Preference was given to a meeting instead of single interviews, since this way, a constructive discussion among the EI-networks representatives could be also initiated.
