SUMMARY:S2S2D Conference 2026: Advancing climate predictions from weeks to decades to benefit society
DESCRIPTION:\nThe third international conference on Subseasonal to Seasonal to Decadal Prediction (S2S2D) takes place this year at the University of Reading, UK from the 7-11 September 2026. The conference brings together scientists from around the world, providing a forum for the current state of Earth system prediction science to be shared and discussed. \n\n\n\nASPECT researchers are participating in several sessions, presenting the project’s work to fellow scientists and experts in the field. \n\n\n\n\nTalk (Abstract 288): The NAO decadal predictability determined by initial ocean heat content anomalies in the subpolar North Atlantic — SST gradients playing a key role by Panos Athanasiadis\n\n\n\nTalk (462): Societal use of seasonal to decadal prediction information: Insights from a large-scale survey of organization in Europe by Suraje Dessai\n\n\n\nPoster (Abstract 286): Comparing climate predictions for the next decade and beyond by Panos Athanasiadis\n\n\n\nPoster (Abstract 338): Statistical downscaling of decadal predictions of precipitation in the Emilia–Romagna region by Panos Athanasiadis\n\n\n\nPoster: Skillful European Summer Climate Forecasts up to 20 Years Ahead by Daniel Krieger\n\n\n\nPoster: Predicting record-breaking hot extremes a year ahead by Markus Donat\n\n\n\nPoster (ID 342): The role of SST and sea-ice datasets in initialising seasonal to decadal predictions by Alison Cobb\n\n\n\nPoster: ENSO teleconnections in initialized multi-decadal simulations by Biana Mezzina, presented by Magdalena Balmaseda\n\n\n\nPoster: Constraining the northern hemisphere stratospheric polar vortex by Doug Smith\n\n\n\nPoster (419): Scaling up co-produced climate information to meet the needs of other potential users by Suraje Dessai\n\n\n\nPresentation in session Climate Services Across Timescales; ‘Seamless climate information from months to multiple years: constraining decadal predictions with seasonal predictions and past observations, and their comparison to multiannual predictions’ by Carlos Delgado Torres\n\n
