As Europe moves from setting ambitious climate adaptation goals to putting them into practice, local-to-regional governments, businesses and policymakers are facing increasingly complex decisions about how to prepare for a changing climate.
With the EU adaptation policy landscape evolving and implementation increasingly taking place at the city and regional level, the need for actionable climate information that is coordinated across multiple levels of governance has never been more timely. In addition, climate services that truly respond to user needs are fundamental for achieving resilience.
As adaptation shifts from EU-level goals to local and regional implementation, what will it take to make climate research and services genuinely actionable across all levels of governance – and what should that mean for Europe’s research and policy agendas going forward?
To explore this question from complementary perspectives, ASPECT and another two Horizon Europe projects, Impetus4Change (I4C) and Climateurope2, are holding a joint science-for-policy workshop on Friday 16 October 2026 at 9:30-12:45 CEST. The event will take place in Norway House in Brussels, Belgium, and will bring together researchers and policymakers.
This event is part of the Brussels Climate Week, a conference that focuses on climate resilience and innovation, serving as a place for learning, collaborating and making an impact in terms of climate adaptation and policy.
Following insights from the projects and a keynote speech, a joint policy brief will be presented, and a roundtable will open the discussion to experts, policymakers and other stakeholders. The aim of this in-person, interactive event is not only to share research results, but to create a space for dialogue on how climate information can become more relevant, usable and actionable for adaptation policy. To reiterate, a central outcome of the event will be the presentation of a joint policy brief developed by the three projects. The roundtable will provide an opportunity for invited experts and policymakers to challenge, discuss and strengthen these recommendations relevant to European climate adaptation policy and research. The outcomes from the event will feed into the policy brief.
